Frequently Asked Questions
How does it work?
How do I contact the service?
Get in touch with me using the contact form or via email and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Where are appointments held?
Face to face appointments are held in Stockport on the Heaton Chapel/Reddish border, making them easily accessible from the Heatons, Reddish, Denton, Hazel Grove, Marple, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Bramhall.
Online appointments are via Google Meet. Clients often tell me how much they value the flexibility of online appointments, especially when juggling work, family, or other commitments. Many also find it comforting to speak from the familiarity and privacy of their own space, which can help them feel more at ease during sessions.
Which type of therapy will be best for me?
There's no need to worry if you're unsure which type of therapy is right for you. Following a thorough assessment, I will develop a personalised approach tailored to your individual needs, which may involve a single form of therapy or a combination over time.
Are we able to speak over the telephone before arranging a first appointment?
Yes absolutely! I recognise that reaching out for support can feel a little daunting. To help make that first step easier, I'm happy to offer a free 15-minute telephone call. It’s a chance for you to share a little about what’s bringing you to therapy, and for me to introduce myself - so you can get a sense of whether I'm the right fit for you.
What happens during the first appointment?
Your first appointment is a space for you to feel heard and supported. I'll take time to help you feel at ease, gently explore what’s been going on for you, and we'll start to make sense of your difficulties together. From there, we can begin thinking about what kind of support might be most helpful for you moving forward.
How many sessions will I need?
I understand that starting therapy is both a personal and practical commitment, of your time, energy, and finances. That’s why I take a thoughtful, tailored approach to your care. Rather than a one-size-fits-all method, I'll work with you to develop an individualised intervention plan that’s shaped by your unique needs, goals, and strengths.
I believe in being open and transparent every step of the way, so you’ll always know what to expect from the process.
How long are appointments?
Appointments are typically 50 minutes long.
When do you offer appointments?
Appointments are typically held during the day on Mondays and Thursdays, and Tuesday evenings. If you require an appointment outside of these times, then please contact me to discuss further.
Do you work with clients who are at risk of harm?
Please note that this is not an emergency or crisis service. I am unable to offer support to individuals who are currently experiencing active suicidal thoughts or are at significant risk of harm to themselves. In these situations, it’s important to seek immediate help from crisis services, your GP, or by attending your nearest Accident & Emergency department.
Confidentiality
Are the things we talk about in appointments kept confidential?
Everything shared in sessions is treated with the utmost respect and kept confidential. If you decide to access my service, I will provide detailed information about my privacy policy. I do not share information with other people such as medical teams or GPs without your explicit permission.
In exceptional circumstances I may need to liaise with other professionals involved in your care (such as your GP) if I am worried that you or someone else might come to serious harm, and this is my legal duty. I would always hope to discuss this with you first, however.
How does confidentiality work when you see adolescents?
I take confidentiality in adolescent sessions very seriously. It's essential that young people feel safe and respected in order to speak openly about what’s on their minds. Wherever possible, I ask for their permission before sharing anything from sessions with parents or carers.
At the same time, I recognise that keeping parents and carers informed can be a valuable part of supporting a young person’s progress. With the young person’s consent, I may invite you to join us for part of a session, or share general updates or helpful insights that can support them between sessions.
If I ever have serious concerns about a young person’s safety or wellbeing, I have a duty of care to involve parents or carers as part of a clear and supportive safety plan. In those situations, I would always aim to involve the young person in those conversations wherever appropriate.
Prices
How much do sessions cost?
Sessions are £120 each.
Can I pay through private medical insurance?
I accept insurance cover from Bupa, Vitality, WPA and Aviva. If you are covered by an insurer not listed here, please let me know and I can contact them directly.
